How to Convert JPG to PDF

This is how most people turn phone photos into something official-looking — proof of address, receipts for a claim, or a form photographed rather than scanned.

The short answer

Upload your images, drag them into the order you want, and convert. All of them become pages in one PDF rather than separate files.

Step by step

  1. 1Add your imagesSelect them all at once. JPG and PNG can be mixed freely in the same document.
  2. 2Put them in orderThumbnails can be dragged. Phone filenames sort by capture time, which is often but not always the order you want.
  3. 3Convert to a single PDFEach image becomes one page, sized to fit the page without cropping.
  4. 4Compress if you are uploading it somewherePhotos are large. A PDF built from eight phone pictures can easily exceed 20 MB.

Photographing a document well

Flat, evenly lit and shot straight down makes the difference between something that reads as a document and something that reads as a snapshot. Shadows across the page are the most common problem.

If you are photographing paper regularly, a scan tool that straightens and cleans up edges will give a noticeably better result than the camera app alone.

Why the file ends up so large

A modern phone photo is several megabytes on its own, and a PDF containing eight of them is simply the sum of its parts.

Compressing afterwards typically cuts that substantially, because photographs are exactly the kind of content compression handles well.

The resulting PDF has no searchable text, since it contains pictures of words. Run OCR if you need the text to be selectable.
